Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in October 2019

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 240 cases in October 2019.

Violence against children

  • A total of 122 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in October 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 41 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 30 cases of physical abuse, 16 cases of negligence, 14 cases of emotional abuse, 11 cases of victims of bullying and harassment, 3 cases of witness to domestic violence, 3 cases of victims of cyber bullying, 3 cases of exploitation and 1 case of commercial sexual exploitation.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended in this category in October 2019.
  • Reports include 9 cases of refusal of access to education, 2 cases of violation of right to shelter and 2 cases of violation of right to safe drinking water or electricity

Family issues

  • A total of 24 cases were reported to and attended in this category in October 2019.
  • Reports include 19 cases of custody or access issues, 4 cases of parenting issues and 1 case of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 4 cases were reported to and attended in this category in October 2019.
  • Reports include 1 case of drug use and 1 case of physical assault or aggression.

 Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 15 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems of children in October 2019.
  • Reports include 4 cases of running away, 3 cases of refusal to attend school and 2 cases of perpetrators of bullying and harassment.

 

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 41 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in October 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 18 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 10 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 5 cases of sexual abuse, 3 cases of intimidating, 1 case of rape, 1 case of negligence, 1 case of economic and financial abuse, 1 case of withholding or damage to property and 1 case of controlling behavior.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 16 cases were reported to and attended in this category in October 2019.
  • Reports include 12 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 4 cases related to care and support for elderly.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 5 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in September 2019.
